Eric Bloodaxe Legendary Warriors Series 1 Troy Ounce (oz) .999 Fine Silver Medallion (Round) - Single

As the first release in the exclusive Warriors Series this silver round features Eric Haraldsson, otherwise known as Eric Bloodaxe. This 1 oz of .999 fine Silver Round features this famous Viking credited in the Viking sagas with the unification of Norway. He is most well known for being a warrior and king of Norway who gained his throne through the extermination of his brothers. When Haraldsson’s father died, he killed his half-brothers to gain complete control of Norway. One legend recounts that his surviving younger brother, Hakon, challenged him for control of the kingdom, which Haraldsson gave it up without a fight.

Later, he was banished from Norway and traveled to Northumbria, where he led bloody raids upon Scotland. Eric also left visible traces of his own in the form of coinage issued in his name at York. Both English and saga sources agree that Eric had been killed in battle, though in later English chronicles, no such details appear in contemporary sources. However, later sources theorize that Eric was killed in an ambush by Maccus, son of Olaf. Additional legends indicate he invaded Northumbria and forced his way into kingship. Still others state he was made a sub-king by King Athelstan, a friend of his father, and ruled from 947-948 and 952-954 A.D.

First in Series: Eric Bloodaxe 1oz .999 Silver

The obverse depicts Eric Bloodaxe as a mighty warrior with an axe in his right hand and a shield in his left. He stands proud at the bow of a viking ship in deep relief detail. His name "ERIC BLOODAXE is curved around the top edge. The reverse then features the common design that will be used throughout the series which depicts an array of historic weaponry that represents each of the warriors to come in this Legendary Warriors Series. The words "LEGENDARY WARRIORS" and "1.OZ 999 FINE SILVER" are curved around the top and bottom of the design.

Singles will arrive in individual plastic flips with increments of 20 pieces arriving in a protective plastic tube.
