1957 NENA Medals NENA57-1a 10k Gold

The 1957 10k Gold NENA medal weighs ~12.6 grams. Designer: James Ford Clapp, Jr. Obverse Design: Official NENA emblem. Reverse Design: CONFERENCE XIII BOSTON / Indian and star design from the 1787 Massachusetts cent (and Massachusetts seal). At the bottom, THE ROBBINS CO. / ATTLEBORO, MASS. Manufacturer: The Robbins Company - Attleboro, MA. Notes: On the sterling issue, “STERLING” is incused on the lower right reverse. The gold issue, “10K” is incused in the same location and sold by subscription only, with sales recorded by June T. Pond. It has been reported that approximately two third of the bronze issue was irretrievably lost on Friday, October 12th, when left overnight at the registration desk. As no trace of these medals has ever been found, it is believed they discarded as trash by hotel personnel. The scarce nature of this bronze issue is reflected in availability and price.
